Overview

A hands-on cultural journey where you gather kai moana | seafood and kai whenua | food from the land with our local guides. This is a journey of gathering food where our locals hunt and gather. This is all about learning, gathering, cooking, and eating together.

Highlights include:

• Surfcasting | beach fishing on Te Oneroa-a-Tōhē | 90 Mile Beach
• Netting drag | traditional fishing net for mullet & kahawai
• Tuatua | shellfish gathering at low tide
• Optional kina | sea urchin dive (conditions permitting)
• Sandboarding at Te Paki Dunes
• Picnic lunch provided, plus a cook-up if a catch is made

Itinerary

• Morning pick-up: Taipa, Mangōnui (Paihia/Kerikeri optional with surcharge)
• Drive in 4×4 vehicles to 90 Mile Beach
• Surfcasting & netting session with local crew
• Gather tuatua at low tide
• Optional kina, crayfish, mussel, oyster dive (tide & weather dependent)
• Picnic lunch provided (cook-up if catch is made)
• Rock fishing for Snapper – Travelley – Kahawai
• Wharf fishing – choose from our many wharfs in the Far North
• Sandboarding at Te Paki Dunes
• Swim and relax at one of our Far North beaches (conditions permitting)
• Return drop-offs late afternoon

Overview

The Catch & Kai Overnight Experience is our signature whenua & moana journey – blending cultural food gathering, adventure, and storytelling with an overnight stay at Ngāpae Holiday Park and farm stay.

• Day 1: Gather kai moana | seafood – surfcasting, netting, tuatua picking, and optional kina | sea urchin dive, floundering, rock fishing, crayfish dive, eeling, picking mussels and oysters, drag netting for mullet and Kahawai.
• Picnic lunch provided, plus a cook-up if a catch is made
• Sandboarding at Te Paki Dunes, then time to swim and relax at one of our Far North beaches
• Evening hāngī-style dinner and storytelling under the stars
• Overnight stay at Ngāpae Holiday Park cabins – Far North x home accomadation
• Day 2: Morning gathering (pipi, kina, or kōura | crayfish, mussel, oysters depending on tides), beach swim, and return journey
